What is The Daily 5?
The Daily 5 is a book by Gail Boushey and Joan Moser. It is a way to manage the literacy block during the school day. It provides students with meaningful and engaging activities that give students ownership over their learning. It involves choice and trust. Students are given the choice of what "center" they want to go to and, through clear, concise expectations and teacher/student modeling, become independent within each center. The wonderful thing about The Daily 5 is that anyone can use it. It can be adapted to fit any schedule and can be used with any group of elementary students.
The Daily 5 consists of five activities the students may choose from:
Read to Self
Read to Someone
Word Work
Listen to Reading
Work on Writing
