Although this project is designed for 6th or 7th graders, it is an excellent idea for my 4th graders to think about how they will use math in their jobs when they grow up.

Real Life Graphs

Students had to find examples in magazines, newspapers or online of bar graphs, line graphs and circle graphs. They brought them in and glued each individual graph onto the graphic organizer.  They then had to work with a partner to write a few sentences describing the data that was displayed in the graph. Students also had to list the source of the graph. Students got to share their graphs with their cooperative learning groups.

Popsicle Bridge Challenge

These bridges were required to be under 5oz in weight, but only had to span 8 inches.

The students were only given

• Cardstock
• Rubber bands
• Popsicle sticks
